Satin and Snakeskin
Set in the Victorian era in the American west, this short story was previously published within the anthology Mail Order Brides.
Robbed of her money when she arrives in New York on her way to find her brother who has headed west, Tess Dalton discovers the only way to follow him is to become a mail order bride. She plans that she will pay off her debt by working instead of marriage. Certainly the handsome cowboy who picks her up is not the sort of man who would want her for a bride.
When Jake Redmond sees the delicate angel he’s been sent by the agency, he knows there has been a mistake. Him and his two young boys are looking for a sturdy farmer’s wife, not a high falutin lady.
Is this the worst mistake the agency has ever made…..or a match made in Heaven.
I will let you be the judge.
